Sofia Correia de Barros, Alumna of the Lisbon MBA Católica | Nova and Managing Director at Diaverum Portugal, wrote an article for Jornal Económico, sharing her opinion on the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Portuguese economy and some recovery strategies.

According to Correia de Barros, “on the one hand, our economy’s recovery will depend on the redefinition of Portuguese companies’ strategy in light of a new reality that is still unfolding –the speed at which this happens is critical. On the other hand, it is essential that the government’s support to businesses goes far beyond tax forgiveness or the extension of moratoria, and includes support for the capitalization and re-industrialization of companies, without forgetting investments in digital and in training through upskilling and reskilling.”

She also believes that the financial support from the European Union can be a fantastic help, if the Portuguese Government looks at the private sector as a partner in the country’s development. She also stresses the importance of speeding up the vaccination process so there are no more advances and retreats in opening up the economy.
