Lisbon is undoubtedly a top ‘go to’ destination for leisure and business tourists alike from around the globe, offering an inspiring blend or commerce and culture surrounded by stunning beaches. As for business visitors, Lisbon ranks 6th most popular city for international meetings according to the International Congress & Convention Association’s ranking. In 2019, this meant that Lisbon surpassed London and Singapore as a global business destination. Since 2018 Lisbon has hosted Websummit, considered the largest technology conference in the world and, as the confirmed venue for the next ten years, Lisbon is here to stay!
In juxtaposition to this dynamic cosmopolitan landscape, Lisbon can proudly refer to itself as the oldest city in Western Europe and not only is home to the oldest bookstore in the world (Livraria Bertrand, 1732) but also the smallest (Livraria do Simão, <35 sq ft). However, if you categorise yourself as more of an ‘outdoors type’ than a ‘book worm’, rest assured that the beaches of the Lisbon region extend along four very different coastlines, and range from wild surfing destinations, through to calm family-oriented beaches and charming resort towns.
The Lisbon MBA campuses of Nova and Catolica provide an ideal opportunity to combine these two contrasting aspects of Lisbon and the iconic Vasco da Gama bridge, the longest bridge in Europe (over 11 miles) symbolises this magnificently. Last, but not least, Portugal was ranked 7th in the Global Peace Index (2024).
Since its inauguration in 1998, Lux changed the nightlife in Lisbon and became a reference in Portugal and Europe. It’s famous for its glamorous decoration, varied DJ sets and, of course, the wonderful terrace facing the river.
Make sure you also visit Bairro Alto and Cais do Sodré, two neighborhoods in the center of Lisbon, home to artsy hip stores during the day, and a wide variety of bars and restaurants during the night.
Along the coast, you will find many places to have fun at night: Tamariz and the famous Casino in Estoril, or the Stairway Club and Jezzebel in Cascais. In the center of Cascais you will find many restaurants, bars and clubs. This city hosts EDP Cool Jazz, a well known Summer festival, which makes a great opportunity to check many great international Jazz artists.
Speaking of Summer Festivals: every year in July NOS Alive happens in Algés (just 10 minutes from the campus by tram). This is a music festival that hosts the best contemporary bands and generally tickets are quickly sold out.
The Lisbon MBA Católica | Nova is an internationally recognized joint-venture between Católica Lisbon School of Business and Economics and Nova School of Business and Economics, two leading business schools in Europe, in collaboration with the MIT Sloan School of Management
