Education for Digitalization
Digitalization is the integration of digital technology in every aspect of everyday life, and it is inevitable. According to João Pedro Serrano, Board Member of The Lisbon MBA Alumni Club, there should be an education for digitalization, but how?
He supports three main pillars in what concerns digital education: 1. Scientific competencies; 2. General competencies, and 3. Social competencies.
Scientific competencies
To understand how this dimension should evolve, it is fundamental to understand that one of the greatest consequences of digitalization is the amount of information generated. It’s crucial to teach how to handle this amount of data and deal with the big numbers.
General competencies
Everything will be computerized, hence it will not be acceptable that any relevant professional is not technologically savvy. Automation and AI are in order, every professional should be capable to express all dependencies, processes, and variable conditions of his/her activities in a structured way. This will enhance value and productivity.
Social competencies
The social and cooperative component is also important. Digitalization is the integration of everything and everyone, and it will put many people from different social and professional backgrounds working together.
The education for digitalization has to be a top priority for every nation in the next decade, and not only looking at younger generations but also the ones already working. This is the best guarantee for labor market sustainability in the face of the challenges of automation and technologic transformation.
