Diana Malhado, Director of Oncology at AstraZeneca in Portugal, graduated in Biological Biological Engineering, but her interest in marketing and management led her to The Lisbon MBA Católica|Nova. The program immediately launched her into an international career and a great start at the European level. A decade later, she continues to apply what she learned.

Our alumna graduated in Biological Engineering with dreams of a research career in genetics, but during her final internship, she discovered her passion for the health sector. After several internships, she joined AstraZeneca, where she has dedicated her entire career.

Diana’s long-lasting relationship with AstraZeneca is due to her embracing the challenges that motivate her most and the company’s support in her personal and professional development. She started in Oncology and later moved to Acute Coronary Syndrome, where she launched a new drug in the cardiovascular area.

She then decided to pursue an MBA in agreement with AstraZeneca, as it was identified as complementary training to her background in engineering and science for her marketing and business management roles. The Lisbon MBA stood out among the options in Portugal due to “its ranking and recommendations within the pharmaceutical industry.”

According to Diana, The Lisbon MBA exposed her to professionals from different fields and varied work groups, preparing her for a successful international career. In addition, she mentioned that the learning-by-doing experience was critical in improving how she approached challenges in her professional life.

After completing The Lisbon MBA Executive, she became European Product Manager of Diabetes and launched a major European Diabetes project. She eventually returned to Oncology, her preferred area, and is now responsible for AstraZeneca’s portfolio and business in Portugal.

Finally, Diana Malhado emphasizes the importance of resilience and adaptability in navigating the challenges of the pandemic and the pharmaceutical industry. She encourages individuals and organizations to embrace change and innovation in order to drive positive outcomes for patients and society as a whole.
