The Lisbon MBA Católica|Nova was featured in the special edition of MBAs of Jornal Económico, highlighting its mission to shape leaders capable of driving organizational transformation with a positive impact on both business and society, particularly in the face of challenges posed by artificial intelligence and automation.

According to Maria José Amich, Executive Director of The Lisbon MBA Católica|Nova, “MBA programs aim to prepare leaders capable of transforming organizations with a positive impact on business, but also on society. With the rise of artificial intelligence and automation, companies, more than ever, are challenged to seek innovative ways every day to promote economic growth that is inclusive and sustainable. And to achieve this, they need a different form of leadership. A leadership that not only drives growth and profitability but also serves and benefits all stakeholders. They need leaders who are not only technically competent but also capable of inspiring, with an authentic and mobilizing purpose. Leaders who fulfill promises and commitments and, in addition to their own honesty, cultivate a culture of integrity in their organizations. Responsible leaders who not only respect cultural and individual differences but also embrace diversity and inclusion, promoting equal opportunities and meritocracy. In this world of enormous volatility and ambiguity, resilient leaders are needed, who know how to use their emotional intelligence and ability to deal with disruptive changes while maintaining a positive outlook on the future. The Lisbon MBA aims to train this type of leader, through its holistic education approach and experiential learning focused on innovation, promoting an entrepreneurial mindset, and solving strategic and complex issues individually and in teams where diversity prevails, whether in nationalities, backgrounds, or professional experiences. In this edition, The Lisbon MBA has been strengthening its network of partnerships, both internationally and in areas of technological innovation and leadership. Thus, in addition to the immersion program at the MIT Sloan School of Management in Boston, we highlight partnerships with the MBA programs of St. Gallen in Switzerland, Esade in Spain, Fundação Dom Cabral in Brazil, and University of San Diego. Through these partnerships, Executive MBA students not only consolidate their ability to learn and develop in multicultural environments but also have access to complementary courses to our curriculum in areas of digital transformation and innovation. For the first time, students have the option of participating in a week focused on learning how to do business and develop business in Asia, the “Study Mission Singapore” from the St. Gallen Institute in Asia. We have further strengthened collaboration with companies such as the RH consultancy, Amrop, and LBC Innovative Transformation. With a focus on technological innovation management and digital business models, we have incorporated new and articulated disciplines with real examples and hands-on projects. We have reinforced the leadership component with sessions dedicated to finding purpose, ethical and sustainable leadership, and inclusion and diversity, as well as team working experience in overcoming obstacles in the field at Escola de Fuzileiros.”

MBA, the program that changes lives, accelerates careers, and top managers love.

Rute Alvarez has many reasons to celebrate. At 44 years old, she is the Oncology Medical Director at MSD Spain, a role that initially seemed unlikely to intersect with her career. A medical professional by training, she had often perceived that her professional opportunities would be limited to progressing within a medical department. “I thought that attending an MBA program could open up a new world of professional opportunities for me,” she explains. If she thought so, she acted even faster. She explored alternatives, decided on “the best program in the country,” and enrolled in the 2021-2023 edition of The Lisbon MBA  Executive. During the nearly two years of the program, despite the “immense demand” and the “personal sacrifice involved,” she felt “enormous personal satisfaction” in investing in herself and her professional development. “It is very difficult to attribute the credits for my subsequent professional evolution strictly to having attended this program. But the truth is that in the second year of the course, I was promoted to an international role with much more responsibility, and I feel that, at least in part, this was due to attending an MBA of this quality,” she explains. The fact that she completed an MBA program while maintaining a full-time job and raising two young children was, in itself, “profoundly rewarding,” she says. Doing so, having been promoted and finishing the MBA receiving the “Best Student Award” from The Lisbon MBA Executive 2021-2023 class, “made the feeling of personal accomplishment difficult to compare to any other investment I have made in my life.” The Lisbon MBA Executive is one of two programs from the consortium that brings together the Católica Lisbon School of Business and Economics (CATÓLICA-LISBON) and NOVA School of Business and Economics (NOVA SBE), which brought this type of program to Portugal in 1980. The Lisbon MBA is the only MBA taught in Portugal that ranks among the top 100 in the Financial Times Global MBA ranking 2024.
