Interview for Executiva: The Lisbon MBA opened a door to unreachable possibilities

Ana Rita Monteiro, Alumna of The Lisbon MBA and ESG Integration & strategy lead at Amazon, gave an interview to Executiva magazine about her experience as a student, and how this MBA helped her define the purpose she was looking for.
While completing her master’s in Organizational Psychology, Ana Rita Monteiro’s need of living abroad grew inside her, and in 2010, she grabbed the first opportunity to leave Portugal for Cape Verde. There, she worked for two years as a Human Resources and Recruitment consultant, at Multipessoal, while at the same time co-founding a diving school. In 2013 Rita packed her bags and moved to Southeast Asia, where she continued her work managing diving schools and resorts. However, this experience was not providing the impact she hoped to achieve. Rita felt the need for a career change, and that is when the decision to ingress into The Lisbon MBA was made.
Rita attended an Amazon recruitment event at Catolica University and, along with five colleagues, she was recruited. Her path at Amazon started as a pathways operations manager, a program for developing operations leadership. In her interview, Ana Rita Monteiro explains how she feels there is still a belief that traditional specialized careers are the key to success. However, during her path, she learned how diversity is fundamental to resilience and innovation, which she believes are essential components to build an impactful career. Because of this, the ESG Senior lead tries implements an entrepreneurial spirit into everything she does, admitting that the feeling related to creating something from scratch is empowering, enriching, and addictive.
Rita chose The Lisbon MBA based on access the educational curriculum and management tools, with a focus on Social Impact, the international aspect of this MBA, its reputation, and the immersion experience at MIT.
The Lisbon MBA alumna explains how this experience was life-changing, opening doors and giving her the possibilities that she had, until then, only dreamed about. Rita valued the discovery journey the MBA provided with the combination of business and soft skills, exponentially impacted by the inspiration of the MBA colleagues and community and the friendships she made. Rita Monteiro continues on the search to do more and better.
