The desire to make a positive impact, combined with the “expat syndrome”

Rita Monteiro – The Lisbon MBA Alumna and Head of Sustainability at Amazon Japan – has given an interview for Human Resources Portugal Magazine

 

Cape Verde, Philippines, Thailand, United Kingdom, France and Japan. These are the countries where Rita Monteiro has worked so far. At 34, she is responsible for the Sustainability Department at Amazon Japan, thus being able to achieve her goal of contributing to a better society.

 

Rita Monteiro has a background in Psychology and a specialization in Human Resources Management, an area in which she began her career, by doing an internship at Jerónimo Martins. But she always had a tendency to do more than one thing at the same time and, therefore, throughout her career, she invested in her own businesses, namely in the area of ​​recreational diving. In 2013, she went to Southeast Asia, precisely to manage diving schools, but for other companies. After a short time, she felt that she needed a different career, “in which she could have more business and social impact” and this led her to take The Lisbon MBA Católica | Nova in 2016.

 

Amazon was introduced to Rita through the MBA, and she has been working there since 2017. She joined the Pathways program, worked for two years in Wales, then went to France and, in 2019, moved to Japan, to work in Supply Chain and Logistics. Nowadays, she is the Head of Sustainability for Amazon Japan.
