The Lisbon MBA Sector Panel Pharmaceutical Industry
We invited Ana Paula Carvalho, Chief Commercial Officer on Emerging Markets at Pfizer, Helena Freitas, General Manager Portugal at Sanofi Pasteur and Vitor Papão, General Manager Portugal at Gilead for a state-of-the-art conversation on how the Pharmaceutical Industry sector is facing a set of unique challenges and what the future will bring.
For the panelists, an evolution of the pharma business model focused on innovation, digitalization, and collaboration between competitors will characterize the transformational journey of the sector in the upcoming years. Innovative methods as artificial intelligence, big data, and analytical science-driven models will improve the agility and efficacy of the research and development processes, the clinical trials, regulatory approval processes, and even the marketing and product launch approaches, thus affecting the entire healthcare ecosystem.
Additionally, because of the digitalization of the customer experience, pharma companies will have to revisit their go-to-market strategy and advance to a fully integrated customer interaction approach that is flexible in accommodating communication preferences, especially in a socially distanced environment.
As the improvement or development of products and therapies is becoming increasingly technical and challenging, the collaboration between pharmaceutical companies will guarantee business continuity and adaptation. Leveraging from the different expertise and knowledge will lead to faster breakthroughs and will help pharma companies to quickly adapt to the changing nature of the sector without compromising on safety and, in the long-term, providing global market access to patients.
In this sense, the pharmaceutical industry has a unique chance to reinforce its purpose and the opportunity to create a stronger and fairer healthcare system.
Thank you to Ana Paula Carvalho, Helena Freitas and Vitor Papão for sharing your valuable knowledge and insights with the Lisbon MBA students.
