The Startup & the City

Lisbon is indeed one of the oldest cities in the world and its name is believed to come from the Phoenician phrase meaning “safe harbor”. Despite the 3000 thousand years, that part us from that time, and despite all the changes the city suffered over the centuries, Lisbon remains a safe harbor for many European Entrepreneurs that wish to start their business.
In 2016, the Portuguese Government launched StartUP voucher initiative, which offered year-long fellowships to more than 400 entrepreneurs in addition to setting up more than €200 million venture capital fund to boost the startup scene.
Lisbon is now considered one of the six global startup hubs to watch in 2019 according to Business Insider, due to its cozy and welcoming ecosystem to the rapidly growing entrepreneurial movement.
This is one of the reasons many students come to The Lisbon MBA, being in many situations their first step towards starting their own business. The characteristics of the MBA program that contribute to this quest are many and the goal is to prepare students in the best way possible.
Besides being able to experience business abroad, taking part of internships and complete an immersion period on MIT Sloan, one of the most attractive characteristics for entrepreneurs is an opportunity given to The Lisbon MBA students to dedicate some time of their program nurturing their startup idea in one of the city’s many startup hubs.
Aga Bryzcka, International Full-time class of 2017 alumna, is just one example that succeeded in the Entrepreneurial set.
